The State Audit Bureau, represented by the Chief
Auditor at Defense, Security, and Public Affairs
Audit Department, Mr. Abdullah Al-Sheitan,
chaired the first meeting of the ARABOSAI
Sustainable Development Goals Monitoring
Committee during the period 16-18 February
2020, held in Tunis.
Six Arab SAIs participated in the meeting. The
Arab Republic of Egypt, the Republic of Iraq, the
Republic of Mauritania, the Republic of Tunisia,
and the State of Qatar.
The meeting aimed to amend the organizational
bylaw of the ARABOSAI Sustainable
Development Goals Monitoring Committee in line
with the organization’s statute in its new version.
It was also aimed at reviewing the achievements
of the Committee in the previous period and its
objectives during the period 2020-2022 in order
to update the Committee’s plan for the period
2020-2022 and to develop the operational plan
for the year 2020. Additionally, the meeting
dealt with monitoring the sub-priority elements
included in the strategic plan with respect to

supporting member SAIs and their capabilities
in the field of monitoring the implementation of
sustainable development goals (SDGs), as well
as electing the vice-president for the Committee.
The meeting included a proposal to implement
a cooperative audit mission on air pollution,
and to assign the ARABOSAI Sustainable
Development Goals Monitoring Committee to set
programs’ main objectives and themes of the
climate change and desertification program and
refer them to the Institutional Capacity Building
Committee. Furthermore, it was proposed to
review the Voluntary National Reports (VNRs) and
to form a working group to translate and adapt
the guidance approved by AFROSAI-E in the
field of monitoring SDGs under the supervision
of the General Secretariat of ARABOSAI. The
meeting also discussed the need to prepare
articles on the objectives of the Committee
according to the priorities set in the plan, in order
to be disseminated across the Organization and
published on the ARABOSAI website.
