The State Audit Bureau (SAB), headed by
the President of SAB, Mr. Faisal Alshaya, has
participated in the 55th virtually meeting of the
ASOSAI Governing Board on Monday, July 27,
2020, which was convened under the Chair of
the State Audit Office of Vietnam. The virtual
meeting involved 12 countries, i.e., China,
Japan, India, Korea, Thailand, Nepal, Russia,
Malaysia, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Turkey, and
Kazakhstan, and the representative of INTOSAI
Development Initiative (IDI).
Along with Mr. Alshaya, the delegation of SAB
was represented by Mrs. Heba Alawadhi,
Controller of the International Relations, Training
and International Relations Department, Mr.
Talal Alwuhaib, Auditor, Performance Audit
Department; and Mr. Yaqoub Alwazzan, Senior
Translator, Training and International Relations
Department.
Considering that SAB holds the Chair of the
Special Committee on Feasibility Study of
Establishing ASOSAI Working Group on SDGs,
the delegation of SAB delivered a presentation
at the meeting in this regard, and members of
the ASOSAI Governing Board were asked to vote
on the presented proposal. SAB presented the
working mechanism of the Committee and key
findings of the feasibility study. This presentation
was based on a number of reliable resources
that are of particular relevance to SAIs and
the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),

including the strategic plans of the international
organizations, which included themes and
activities that are aimed at enhancing the
role of SAIs in the follow-up of governments’
implementation of SDGs.
The delegation stated that the final outcome of
the Committee’s study was that the formation of
the ASOSAI Working Group would be feasible
if available opportunities to establish a shared
database between SAIs to exchange knowledge
in the field of SDGs audits are to be used. The
findings of the study also underscored the
importance of holding joint training programs
and workshops as well as producing joint audit
reports. Members of the ASOSAI Governing
Board ratified the study and unanimously
approved the establishment of the ASOSAI
Working Group. They also commended the
efforts of SAB with respect to presenting the
proposal of establishing the Working Group at
the Governing Board Meeting in July 2019, which
was followed by forming a special committee
headed by the State Audit Bureau of Kuwait to
study this proposal with the participation of six
countries - i.e., Vietnam, China, Japan, Thailand,
Nepal, and Turkey.
