Green Building in Kuwait:
Several entities in the State of Kuwait are keen
to apply green building bases. While there is no
local rating system in Kuwait for green building,
some entities try to acquire certifications to
prove that their projects meet the green building
requirements. Since the American system is
the most famous, in addition to it’s stability to
be adapted to match the local environment, 64
projects until February 2020 applied to USGBC to
obtain its accreditation and 9 projects only got it.
Theyare theheadquartersof Alargan International
Real Estate, the headquarters of Petrochemical
Industries Company (PIC), Oil Sector Complex,
Agility Administration Building, the new building
of Ecological Fuel Project in Al Ahmadi Refinery,
the new headquarters of Equate Petrochemical
Company, Kuwait Real Estate Company,
Research & Development Building of Kuwait Oil
Company, and Souk-Al-Kabeer of Kuwait Real
Estate Company. Recently, some entities began
to use the rating system of Qatar for its simple
application and the similarity between Qatar
and Kuwait’s environment. The system adopted
in Qatar was developed and changed from a
local system (QSAS) to a Global Sustainability
Assessment System (GSAS). Three projects
obtained the accreditation until February 2020.
They are the headquarters of Kuwait National
Petroleum Company, Administration Building
of Abdullah Port Refinery, and the Head Office
(No.1) of Al-Sayer Holding Group.
