At this time, most of these requirements are being sought by the telecommunications man-
ufacturers using a wide range of technologies, while considering the means to overcome
some of the faced challenges to achieve the purpose of the fifth generation of networks.
Including but not limited to the increase connectivity level or the development of a Radio Ac-
cess Network that are capable of providing a noteworthy leap in connections performance.
In addition to overcoming an obstacle concerning the availability of frequencies required by
the fifth generation networks, and the possibility to create a design of the new networks as
to reduce latency to 1 mSec. Further challenges are faced in designing the devices, trans-
mitter stations antennas, control stations of the telecommunications networks.
5G main Applications :
Several visions and series of application are sought by the telecommunications manufac-
tures that would establish the base of the fifth generation environment. The said applica-
tions includes the following:
1- Virtual Reality (VR) / Augmented Reality (AR).
2- Autonomous Driving / Connected Cars.
3- Machine- to- Machine Connectivity (M2M).
4- Wireless Cloud-based Office/ Multi-person videoconferencing.
Many initiatives and discussion were deliberated among governments, manufacturers, op-
erators and academics around the world regarding the fifth generation of networks in order
to collaborate and coordinated the efforts toward achieving 5G set targets.
When is it time for the fifth generation of networks?
At the beginning of 2018, major telecommunication companies, especially AT & T, Sprint,
Verizon and T-Mobile, commenced the work on the fifth-generation networks in some ma-
jor cities in the United States on a pilot basis, to be implemented by the end of 2018 or
the beginning of 2019. Simultaneously, some countries in Europe and Asia will initiate their
experiments on these networks. It is worth pointing out that the fifth generation (5G) was
already tested during the winter Olympics in South Korea in February 2018.
Keeping pace with telecommunications networks developments require the availability of
modern technologies that are in a rapid change due to the competition among international
companies to get ahead, provide the best and fastest services to consumers, and make
profits. The said companies invest efforts and funds, in either research, technology manu-
facturing or networking. The world is racing to overcome the various challenges hindering
the implementation of the fifth generation networks, such as providing the appropriate net-
works, applications and the development of personal devices in order to optimize the use
of these networks and services. Are we ready for the fifth generation of networks
