ALRAQABA . ISSUE 20 59 and Organizations Audit Institutions Represented by Mr. Sami Alduwaihees, Assistant Undersecretary of Independent Bodies Audit Sector, the State Audit Bureau participated in a seminar titled “SAIs’ Independence” and a workshop titled “Mediation to Raise the Level of Support for SAIs” specifically targeting the ARABOSAI Region. The events were organized by the INTOSAI Development Initiative (IDI) in the Kingdom of Morocco from 3-6 June 2024. The participation aimed at creating a safe space for discussion to analyze the role of the legislature in the implementation of Principle 7 of the Mexico Declaration, as well as to exchange ideas on the participation of the ARABOSAI members in INTOSAI development initiative projects that are related to the independence of SAIs. The seminar “Independence of Supreme Audit Institutions” included a discussion on understanding SAIs’ functions and roles within the general financial management system, in addition to the contribution of SAIs in combating corruption and moving forward in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. The seminar also addressed SAIs’ performance within the ARABOSAI Region, as well as their capacities and evaluation tools. Furthermore, the seminar also included a presentation and a discussion session on the Global SAI Independence Project (IDI-OECD-IMF), and a presentation to discuss the strategy of the InterParliamentary Union (IPU), its objectives, activities, and strategic partnership with the IDI. On the other hand, the workshop titled “Mediation to Raise the Level of Support for SAIs” included a discussion on SAI needs assessment, and identifying the needs that require external, technical, or financial support. The workshop also touched upon the importance of the strategic plan as well as good practices for needs assessment and internal resources for effective implementation. Moreover, the workshop addressed the following topics: the results of the 2023 Global Assessment Report, identification of regional and sub-regional needs, ways to reconcile regional priorities and synergies in action, and the exchange of experiences by donors (development partners - SAIs) on areas of support, methods, and partnerships within the region.
